             The Corporation’s Schemes are mainly implemented in the State through three State Government Departments viz. the Department of Cooperation, Department of Industries and the Department of Fisheries.   As a financing Institution, NCDC has acted as a catalyst for enabling the cooperatives in the State to make significant inroads in to every sphere of economic activity.  NCDC has, as on 31.3.2011, disbursed a cumulative amount of 3521.38 crores for various Cooperative Development projects in Kerala.

 

2. Impact of NCDC Finance

 

NCDC has invested a total amount of around Rs 274 crores for agro-based enterprises in the sectors of rubber, coconut, textile, fruits & vegetable, etc.  20 rubber based units, 4 spinning mills, 1 coconut oil unit, 2 tea factories & 1 wheat processing units which are in operations are the prominent value added ventures assisted by NCDC.

 

For marketing, input distribution and Consumer business,  NCDC provided around 133 crores which enabled Marketfed, Rubbermark,  Raidco Campco,  Consumerfed etc and a host of primaries to play a major role in the market, safeguarding the interest of the growers as well as consumers. 

 

Under various storage Schemes (except ICDP), NCDC provided around Rs 15 crores   for construction of 2215 godowns creating additional storage capacity of around 3.50 lakh MTs in the State.

 

NCDC’s district specific projects - the Integrated Cooperative Development Projects (ICDP) - have radically strengthened the village level primary agri. service cooperative banks and have transformed them as multi-purpose entities for catering to the requirements of rural poor. The ICDPs in all the 14 districts with a total outlay of Rs 160.00 crores could strengthen the primary credit/marketing societies by way of creation of basic infrastructure/banking facilities, value addition projects, emphasis on information technology, training etc.

 

In the Fisheries Sector, around 50,000 traditional fishermen have been benefitted, so far by acquiring modern and efficient fishing and marketing inputs, creation of infrastructure etc with NCDC-funded Integrated Fisheries Development Projects involving total outlay of Rs 182.85 crores.

 

In the coir sector, NCDC has provided around Rs 45.60 crores through the State Govt. for improving marketing operations of Coirfed, setting up of coir godowns (119), coir processing units(12) and defibering & spinning units (122).

 

Information Technology development is one of the thrust area where NCDC has sanctioned about Rs.10 crores for computerisation of about 167 primary level societies and State Level Federations, apart from substantial assistance provided through ICDPs for computerisation of village level cooperatives.

 

NCDC has provided working capital assistance to the tune of Rs 620.00 crores short term working capital, directly to the Kerala State Cooperative Agriculture & Rural Development Bank ( Rs 500 crores), Kerala State Cooperative Bank Ltd (Rs 100 crores) Malappuram District Coop: Bank (Rs 10 crores) and Wayanad DCB (Rs 10 crores). This has enabled the Banks to enhance their micro level lending to a great extent.
