1.† Cooperative Movement in Kerala.
The Cooperative Movement in Kerala has a solid foundation and impressive record in terms of strength and financial stability and it is one of the most vibrant cooperative movements in the country. There are 14896 cooperative societies functioning under the Registrar of Cooperative societies. Around 993 coir cooperatives,575handloom/power loom cooperative,405 industrial cooperatives, 665fisheries cooperatives and 3206 diary cooperatives are functioning in the State under the control of various functional Registrars. Cooperation is a way of life in Kerala and emphasis is now shifting to the service sector than in agri and allied sector.
The Cooperative Credit structure comprising of State Apex Bank (SCB), 14 District Cooperative Banks (DCB) and1654Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) for short term credit and Apex Rural Devp. Bank (CARDB) and 63 affiliated Primary Cooperative Agricultural and Rural Development Banks for long term credit, are rated as strongest in the country. During 2014-15 deposits of the cooperative societies stood at Rs69925.89crore .
2. Flow of NCDC funds to State of Kerala.
The Corporationís Schemes are mainly implemented in the State through three State Government Departments viz. the Department of Cooperation, Department of Industries and the Department of Fisheries. As a financing Institution, NCDC has acted as a catalyst for enabling the cooperatives in the State to make significant inroads in to every sphere of economic activity. † From 2004-05 onwards, NCDC has commenced providing financial assistance under its Direct funding scheme to State level and District level Cooperative Banks and also other eligible cooperatives. NCDC, as on 31.3.2016 disbursed a cumulative financial assistance of Rs.6273.29crore for various Cooperative Development projects in Kerala, in the form of longterm loan of Rs1511.14crore, subsidy of Rs54.20 crore and short term working capital of Rs4708.00 crore. The cumulative fund disbursement by NCDC to Kerala comes to around 11%, of the total releases made by NCDC country-wide.

With amendment of NCDC Act in 2002, the scope of implementation of programmes in new areas especially providing of short term working capital and funding of notified new service sector has widened, resulting in greater flow of NCDC funds to the State of Kerala.
