1. State Under Jurisdiction:     Gujarat and UT of Diu & Daman.

             NCDC initially, had opened its field office in Ahmedabad on 3.6.1984 and the same was subsequently upgraded as Regional Directorate from 15.5.2000.  Presently, the NCDC Regional Directorate is functioning in its own building at Gandhinagar with a total strength of eight employees.

2. Major Activities funded in the State:


         NCDC has sanctioned a cumulative assistance of Rs.1385.91 crore as on 31.3.2008 for 3627 cooperatives/projects in the State under various schemes coming under its purview through the State Government and under its Direct Funding scheme.. Of the total sanctioned assistance NCDC could disburse a cumulative assistance of Rs.1121.11 crore till 31.3.2008 The major funding has gone to the agro-processing sector (including Sugar), Working capital to agriculture & allied activities, Marketing cooperatives, Weaker section programmes like Fisheries, Tribal, Dairy etc.

             The Regional Directorate, NCDC, Gandhinagar has put up an impressive performance with regard to generation of proposals, sanction of financial assistance and release of financial assistance during 2007-08. On all India rankings, the Directorate stood second (2nd) in sanction of funds for new projects totaling to Rs.387.27 crores and secured third (3rd) position in release of funds by disbursing an amount of Rs.330.92 crores during 2007-08, contributing 10.8% of total sanctions and 9.3% of total releases made by NCDC during2007-08.

3. Success stories / Brief achievements

             With NCDC funding various cooperative projects were implemented successfully in the State of Gujarat. The projects for setting up of new Cooperative Sugar Factories, its modernization & expansion programmes, sugar bye-products projects, processing units in agri –sector like Rice mills, Dal mills & Flour mills, Cotton Ginning & pressing mills, Cooperative storage programmes, funding of programmes for Fisheries including distribution of mechanized fishing vessels, Integrated Reservoir Development projects, implementation of programmes for weaker sections like tribals, handloom weavers, poultry development, assistance for marketing cooperatives for agri-business and input distribution etc were worth mentioning. Two Integrated Cooperative Development projects were also implemented in the State. The recent success of NCDC funding is in the working capital scenario through the Gujarat State Coop. Bank Ltd and GSCARDB Ltd for short-term assistance to farmers through cooperatives.

Another sector where NCDC Regional Directorate, Gandhinagar has recently opened up is the funding to the Cooperative Dairy sector in the State during 2007-08.  For the first time, the Corporation entered the Gujarat Cooperative Milk sector, by sanctioning Rs. 2198.32 lakh consisting of Rs.1468.92 lakh as loan and Rs.729.40 lakh as back ended subsidy under DMI Scheme and disbursed an assistance of Rs.576.538 lakh.

             For the first time, since inception of this Directorate, two sanctions amounting to Rs.27.50 lakh for two godowns of total capacity of 2100 MT, at a block cost of Rs.38.00 lakh to two marketing societies, could be made by this Regional Directorate, during 2007-08, under the Direct Funding Scheme.

             NCDC’s Biennial Award for ” Cooperative Excellence” in Gujarat for the year 2002 was bagged by the Chitroda Group Service Coop. Society Ltd, Sabarkantha District and for the year 2004 & 2006 consecutively, was  bagged by Amalsad Vibhag Vividh Karyakari Sahakari Mandli Ltd., Amalsad, Distt. Navsari.

4. Thrust areas:

             Gujarat is a Cooperatively Developed State and therefore there is tremendous potential for cooperatives in the State to excel.  The main thrust areas and activities for Funding cooperatives in the State are Sugar, Agro-processing, Dairy, Fruit and vegetables Marketing and input distribution, Storage,  Fisheries, Industrial & Service cooperatives etc.
