Success Stories:

· Retail outlet chains set up by Horticultural Produce Co-operative Marketing & Processing Society (HOPCOMS), at Bangalore, Kolar, Mandya, Mangalore, Mysore and other major cities in Karnataka.

· Fresh fish retail outlet chain set up by Karnataka Coop. Fisheries Federation at Mysore.

· Integrated Marine Fisheries Projects were implemented in Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada/Uduppi.

· Modernization-cum-expansion of sugar mill & Setting up of bagasse based Cogeneration plant by Nandi SSK, Bijapur Dist and Krishna SSK Belgaum Dist.

· Chocolate manufacturing unit set up by CAMPCO at Puttur, Dakshina Kannada

 

Achievements:

· Promoted the cooperative movement in the state at all levels i.e from primary to Apex Federation

· NCDC has provided a total assistance of Rs 973.188 crores for cooperative development in the state

· Out of the total assistance, around Rs 700 crores was provided to more than 200 projects for value addition in the sectors of sugar, textile, food grains, fruits & vegetable, etc.  This assistance has been mainly provided for capacity expansion and modernization of sugar mills, spinning mills and other processing units, which helped the farmers to a grater extent for getting better prices for their produces.

· Creation of additional storage facilities with cooperatives is another thrust area of NCDC. In the State of Karnataka, cooperatives have constructed over 6000 godowns creating additional storage capacity of around 10 lakh MTs in the State.

· Successfully encouraged cooperatives in availing of assistance under direct funding schemes of NCDC.

· Taken up projects in new Service Sectors like Transport, Hospital etc.

· Revolving working capital of Rs 50 crore was provided to Nandhi Sugar Mill, which in turn benefited sugar cane farmers.

· Working Capital provided to PACS and Marketing Cooperatives have also made good impact at the grass root level.

· Commendably implemented Hindi as official language and recipient of Award (Southern States) from Deputy Prime Minister, Govt. of India during 2000-01.

 

Thrust areas:

· Modernization-cum-expansion, capacity optimization and cogeneration of Cooperative Sugar Mills.

· Working capital (mainly revolving) to cooperatives including sugar mills/marketing cooperatives.

· Creating additional storage capacities through cooperatives under GBY.

· Power-loom Weavers Co-operatives – Cotton & Silk

· Integrated Co-operative Development Projects.

· Future Focus is on Service Sectors like Cooperative Housing, Cooperative Hospitals, Cooperative Transport Cooperative.

· Promoting Agri. Grading, packing, processing and other value addition activities.
